Mexico-U.S. Border Mayors Forum begins today

Published/Last Modified on Monday, Oct 18, 2004 - 11:16:53 am MST

BISBEE - The 10th Border Mayors Forum will take place Monday through Wednesday in the form of a tour through the Rio Sonora Valley of Mexico.

The tour will include such communities as Arizpe, Bacoachi, Baviacora, Banamichi, Cananea, Aconchi, Huepac and San Felipe de Jesus. The group will visit attractions in the region that range from the Hot Springs at Aconchi to local businesses displaying their artisans.

With tourism as the focus of the event, Kay Daggett, director of the Sierra Vista Convention and Visitors Bureau, will lead the group in a Tourism Development program, describing the initial first steps of establishing a Visitors Center and how to market their region to interested travelers.

The Border Mayors Forums began with a generous grant from the Ford Foundation. The forums include mayors from the SouthEastern Arizona Governments Organization region, which includes Cochise, Graham, Greenlee and Santa Cruz counties, and the Sonora, Mexico, region.

Topics have ranged from infrastructure development to tourism. The forums have rotated between the SEAGO's region and Sonora.

" Its never 'okay' to wrongfully arrest someone just because they feel he should 'just get a job'. Maybe Greg Pike is so smart he's figured out before us that the working rat race can be a mindless depressing/dehumanizing contest. I'm amazed at how well he's getting along particularly considering what a horribly difficult life he's endured. I'm 'College Educated' & made more $ than I expected to in life but I'll say: Greg Pike is more intelligent than I, his brother. If anyone can get a message to him please show him this post and my email: volunteer_samaritan(at)live.com "

" Good job with the sentence. But, what about the parents that knew about this situation before hand? Some parents did know this activity was going on in Tombstone, but declined to say or do anything before this incident. One parent did report this and that was the cause of his apperhension, not the Marshall's office! "
